COVID vaccine update

As of 22/03/2021, another 6 million people are eligible to have the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine, which will be rolled out in General Practice. These are the Stage 1b vaccines.

Those eligible include – anyone over 70 yrs old, Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander people over 55 years old, anyone with a chronic disease, those with a disability and an underlying medical condition, health care workers and critical care / emergency workers

You can check whether you are eligible for a vaccine on the Australian Government website –

We are expecting to get our supply of COVID vaccinations in mid to late April. Once we do, we will message you to let you know they are available. Be aware that you should leave at least 2 weeks between having your Flu vaccine and having your COVID vaccine.

One good thing is that, with so little community transmission in NSW and in Newcastle itself, we do have the luxury of time. It is not urgent to get the vaccine straight away.

Happily, the Government regulator has approved the manufacture of the Astra Zeneca vaccine in Australia, so there shouldn’t be any problems with supply of vaccines.

There are some good Government websites for getting more information about the vaccine itself, and about the process of having a vaccination.
